Point Network

Blockchain-Powered Decentralized Internet

Point Network aspires to do for cryptocurrency space what Apple did for personal computing devices.

Tor, Bittorrent, Bitcoin, Ethereum - all these projects were stepping stones on the way to the Holy Grail — decentralized internet, also known as web 3.0. Open for everyone, censorship-resistant, permissionless, privacy-oriented internet with programmable money known as cryptocurrency as its built-in payment system.

Point Network is a proposed implementation of this vision. In addition to the set of protocols serving as its foundation, it aims to provide a harmonious ecosystem for decentralized applications (dApps) and a consistent and straight-forward User Interface experience to expedite global adoption.

Look like your project has many service that's very unique, I read about email service, in your email service need some money to attach file to prevent spam and user need additional money in his account to message public figure, this is really good solution. Your project goal very promising, but i need to know, do you have any plan to open your team identity?

Thanks, can't say we were the first to come up with this specific idea though. Gotta credit Adam Back's hashcash paper for spam mitigation (http://www.hashcash.org/hashcash.pdf) and Earn.com (https://earn.com/blockchain-personalities/) for the part about public figures.

Our goal is to gather the best ideas in the space and infuse them into one solid platform.

If it was interesting to you so far, make sure to read the whole thing, decentralized end-to-end encrypted email is just one of the features.

All in due time, we're just getting started. Many more things are to be announced in the coming weeks, stay tuned!

that was a nice idea until I read:

"That’s why we have chosen to build on top of Ethereum code"

Game over for me. You cannot build a serious project on top of Ethereum, sorry. That's a fact IMO.

Not Ethereum. Ethereum code.

Instead of reinventing the wheel, we plan to make good use of existing Ethereum code base, which supports smart contracts, has web3 tools such as truffle, known security parameters/libraries/best practices, extensive network of developers etc. And given that it's not based on the Ethereum chain, it will allow us to test and implement innovative ideas on top of that code.

Exactly what Aragon did, as they describe in the article you linked.

Your litepaper is already long. What are we going to expect on your whitepaper? Are there some features that you haven't tackled on your litepaper? Since you are already doing a tedious job just by creating your litepaper, why is it that you prefer to be anonymous?
Being online for most of the day, I am curious what would be the advantage of your network as compared to what google is already offering to the public?

This seems really interesting, gonna read the litepaper today Smiley
i already have an idea of how people COULD do this, as the idea has been floating in the space for years
will be interesting to read your paper and see what you guys have come up with.  If i had to guess its some form of the age old IPFS Tongue
well see tho.   Good Luck as you move forward! Smiley One to watch right here for sure

I've seen a similar project https://wr.io/, it is aiming as well for web 3.0, I can't really tell that much if you're in the same direction we will let see more. But seeing their development I don't know where does their project really headed to as they are silent this year. So, if you can view their project what are your advantage/s over them?

I'll keep on view with the development of this project, hope to see more features and getting excited to see the prototype demo so soon.

Boring technical details of the protocol specification.

A number of valid concerns. Please note we do not ask for your money in any way, at least right now, so there's no obligation on our side to dox ourselves just yet. However, I believe we will publish full disclosure very soon.

The length of the paper is an issue, thanks for the feedback on that, we're working on making it more compact.

They seem to be focused solely on IoT (internet of things). Which is fine. Other projects are focused on decentralized finance, others on decentralized exchanges, collectibles, games and so on.

Point Network is a lower-level protocol that would be able to provide a unified infrastructure for all such projects, should they wish to use it.

Think TCP/IP and HTTP, which enabled all kinds of normal websites and web 2.0 applications to exist on top of it.

seems that you have a lot to offer here especially for those internet junkies.
but hopefully the fees attached to your services should not be of hindrance later on in expanding your network.
because most people will stay away if they heard or learn or read that you are charging them for a fee for a certain service, even if its really cheap in exchange of their peace of mind. everyone wants free services. remember that!
only those few who are  in vain with their security, or afraid that someone is watching them or has illicit activities to hide will surely pay for something to these services.
you should think of that way so you know how to entice regular users to use your services...

because most people will stay away if they heard or learn or read that you are charging them for a fee for a certain service
Actually, just to make it clear, we do not charge anything.

We're going to create an automated market for decentralized cloud providers (storage providers) and the customers. You could easily be a storage provider too if you want, and they'll pay you. Since storage providers would compete for the clients, the market forces of supply and demand would determine the prices, which would stay competitive.

Our operations are to be supported by sources standard to most cryptocurrencies - donations and the issuance of a utility token, certainly not by providing centralized cloud services, as it would defeat the whole purpose.

On the main topic though, I assume you're still paying for your internet access to your internet provider? If you remember, at first we also used to pay them per kilobyte, then per megabyte, and now we have fixed cost plans. We expect some big storage providers to absorb risk the same way and offer similar plans in the future. It's a free market.

Quote
everyone wants free services. remember that!

Indeed. Please also remember that "If you're not paying for a product, you are the product" (c)

But now, my main concern is the stability of your network. What I'm saying here is, how can you assure users that you will be up and running all the time? What if one day, your site is down or nowhere to be found because the dev team got tired of this project and have no more motivation to push it? At least with google, we know that if they will be down, it will be more of minor glitches, and they will always come back no matter what.

Miners in Proof-of-Work are incentivized by block rewards and transaction fees not to leave the system. Stakers in Proof-of-Stake (which we prefer) are incentivized by the same, as long as there's demand. That's how the network stays up.

The code would be Open Source. If the developers, like you say, "get tired", or get served with a cease-and-desist by governments, we implore the community to take over, fork the code and pick up from where we stopped.

Similar to any other crypto project.

Not really: https://time.com/4004192/google-data-lightning-belgium/ (from a quick search just now, there have probably been some more recent incidents)

Hopefully, they do some more redundancy now for everyone's data, but they still retain total control over it. In Point Network, your data is copied onto N storage providers throughout the world, where N = your preferred level of redundancy. The storage providers are incentivized not to lose it, because they would have lost the collateral locked up in the smart contract.

No, just that message Smiley We wanted to take the second message space before the 'Klingon translation reserved' spammers would. Now that we did that from the main account, that one's no longer needed.

I like your project idea, but why don't you show the project team? I hope in the future you will display it, as well as social media accounts and telegram channels for discussion
